An Email Conversation
With A Professed "Conservative"

This is a composite from a series of email from a professed "conservative" in response to the comments about liberals.   The person responding is an actual correspondent for a major internet news outlet. Out of courtesy, I did not include the individual's name or the internet news outlet. 

From Patriotman:

"Liberals do not support our Troops.  Ask any of them to tell you about the successes of our Troops in Iraq and they look at you like you are challenging their patriotism.  Why is it that the media, mostly liberal, do NOT support our Troops?  If you really support our troops, then celebrate in their successes.  If you really support our troops, encourage them to WIN the war.  If you really support our troops, help them to win by putting politics aside and rooting for the home team!  America!"  

From The Professed Conservative:

"Bush Administration doesn't support the troops either. From www.military.com - it is easy to TALK the talk but harder to walk the walk. You are being flim flammed by Bush Admin. and the idiot media that has too much invested in supporting him. The war can't be won as long as this idiot is in charge - and the mess we are in there can be placed on Bush/Cheney/Rumsfeld doorstep. Support the troops - tell congress to increase their pay and give them what they NEED in equipment and power to do the job. THEN tell them to give Bush a swift kick in the pants - about the only thing that will get him out of his self induced coma."

From Patriotman:

"Talk about "flim flammed".  You proved my point.  Liberals cannot support the troops because they always want to turn this into a political spectator sport.  Supporting the troops has nothing to do with your idiotic political views about Pres. Bush.  Who cares about your whining loser attitude against the Bush Administration.  Our troops are doing great things in Iraq.  So while they are being heroes of our time, you are trashing them by making this all political because your candidate lost the election.  How sad it is to see someone put politics above those who actually give you the freedom of speech."

From The Professed Conservative:

"You are so funny. I have been supporting conservatives for 40 years. I worked for Reagan for crying out loud. You just do NOT get it - Bush is NOT a conservative - he has expanded govt. size MORE than LBJ did with the war on poverty - check out Heritage and Cato - about as conservative as it gets. Even Limbaugh admits that fact. My views about BUSH are that he does not care about the "troops" he cares about his views and HIS silly notions about BIG government being able to solve the problems of the world. People like you scare me because you are so BLIND about this man. He is NOT a conservative - get over it and ask yourself questions about WHAT it means to support the troops. Does that mean support the TROOPS or support Bush's blindness on policy and how to fight and win. He has failed the troops by hamstringing them with lawyers and policy people who have NO interest in the troops. But I suspect you won't get it - you have NO idea what I am talking about because you look at Bush as GOD - not as a fallible man who is neither conservative nor wise nor a good leader. God help us if people like you support this man who has no idea about anything except the latest neocon fantasy about how the world works. It is appalling to think you actually have the power to vote."

From Patriotman:

"Wow. I can't believe it.  I actually found someone who is a Liberal who thinks that she is a conservative!  You are the worst kind to have in the media.  No wonder our troops are not getting the respect that they deserve.  None of my emails have said anything about Pres. Bush, or his policies and that is all that you have been talking about.  You see, YOU don't get it.  You are pushing YOUR agenda against Pres. Bush, and you have not said one thing about our troops who are fighting this war on terror.  I truly believe that it is beneath you to even say anything positive about our troops.  I have served in the military for 20 years and I frankly get tired of people like you who avoid talking about the good things that we do for so many people in the world.  It is people like you who spit in the faces of our troops when they return and call them "baby killers" etc.  What a loser you are!  Thanks for being so "patriotic"!.  You would have been the first to shoot down people like George Washington, Paul Revere, Benjamin Franklin, or Thomas Jefferson.  You are certainly no patriot of America."
