The Revolutionary War was a victory of unbelievable odds. The painting titled "Spirit of 1776" captures the strength and perseverance of Americans who fought and beat the greatest military force in the world. Soldiers in uniform and volunteers in civilian clothing marched side by side in a common cause to fight against the British empire. It was a battle that pushed men, women, and children to the edge of freedom. It was a war that made men leaders of men who had little skill in the art of combat. It was a time that divided a people and force them to choose between freedom and tyrannical rule.
Our founding fathers took a chance for freedom and rid themselves of discriminate taxes and laws that enslaved them to a tyrant. With knowledge of consequences for their actions, our founding fathers were determined to build a nation of peace and freedom. They developed a plan to revolt against the British rule and to build a new nation under God, indivisible, with liberty and justice for all.
Today, after two centuries and few decades, the examples and lessons taught by these brave men still echo in our laws and linger in our hearts. Their willingness to take a stand against the odds proved to be miraculous. As I look at the painting titled "Spirit of 1776", I can't help to wonder how patriotic the country was to witness the birth of our nation. While men in parliament continued to disagree, they all had the American spirit burning within their soul.
Patriotic flags and clothing was expressed openedly and with pride. As the flag passed by, all gently placed their hand over their heart or took a moment of ponder to thank God for the blessings of freedom. Each person during that time knew what it really meant to be enslaved to a tyrant on one day and the next day to be a free citizen of the United States of America.
Today, this same spirit has been fading as our society as a whole becomes less willing to express and celebrate who we are and what we represent. Through ignorant interpretations of laws by people who despises our freedoms, schools are withdrawing permission for students to pledge allegiance to the flag or say prayers to the Almighty. Local communities are enforcing bylaws that prohibit people from displaying our flag in their homes. A president who spends his time apologizing to other nations as if to say that we are sorry that we are a free society and helping other nations to be free. Law makers who carefully design laws that restrain and restrict our freedoms or take our homes away for their financial benefits.
It is time that we view the Spirit of 1776 once again to remind us who we are and how we became a free nation. It is time that we learn from our founding fathers about standing up for freedom and stopping tyrannical rule by certain politicians. Taking part in such organizations as the Tea Parties push our political representatives to "represent" us correctly and in a manner that benefits the people. America is a land of the free. It is a beacon to the world for freedom. Be the patriot that keeps America free.
